My client is a top 20 accountancy firm based in London City. We are recruiting a qualifeid VAT officer to join their team.
My client has identified a need to ring-fence the VAT compliance function as a key service offering in the VAT Team. The successful person would work in the wider VAT Team in the City Office, but would be responsible for operating and developing a full range of compliance service offerings. This will be increasingly important with the arrival of "Making Tax Digital" and the evolving automation of tax functions.
The person would need to be experienced in working with VAT accounting systems and extrapolating data for the preparation of VAT returns. The person should also have good inter personal skills in order to be able to communicate effectively with all the various clients, colleagues and HMRC staff as necessary.
1.Manages a portfolio of clients ensuring that for each client all deadlines are met, the work is carried out within budget and the job is finalised to minimise partner/director review time.
2.Actively participates in meetings, workshops, and training.
3.Takes an active role in practice development activities aiming to build on current client relationships and establish new opportunities.
4.Attends training and is committed to CPD, continually developing and increasing knowledge and skills to give the best possible service and advice to clients and internal staff.
5.Assists with billing procedures and debt collection where appropriate and in liaison with client partner.
6.Provides ideas and input to new innovations and improvements to help improve efficiency and productivity and better improve the quality of services we offer.
7.Involvement in sectors such as land and property, NFP, construction, hospitality, healthcare, education, International consultancy and outsourcing, professional services and marketing services.
-Preparation, at different levels and complexity of VAT returns and reviewing and submissions of VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, Intrastat returns and MOSS returns;
-Assisting clients with VAT EU refund reclaim;
-Identifying, preparing and reviewing of voluntary disclosures;
-Option to Tax
-Partial exemption calculations and implementation of the methods to ensure compliance
-Acting as the key point of liaison between the client and HMRC.
-Raising awareness and support on Making Tax Digital, HMRC`s compliance requirements, and providing internal support for VAT queries from staff;
-Becoming the day- to-day contact for allocated clients;
-Maintaining a strong working knowledge in respect of all areas of VAT, including keeping up to date with the appropriate legislation and developments in VAT law.
-Fostering good internal relations across services lines in Tax and legal Consultancy and Corporate Finance resulting in direct work referrals.
-Preparing and delivering presentations and VAT training to clients, non-tax and non-VAT specialists.
-Preparing marketing material on varying VAT initiatives such as the VAT package and House of Lords/ECJ cases of interest, as they arise.
-Attending weekly meeting and draft material to weekly VAT update.
Previous exposure to an accountancy firm and Indirect tax is needed. A tax qualification would be ideal.
