Job Description

The Organisation

Founded in 1992, Equality Now is a non-profit organisation, fighting for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women and girls around the world through legal advocacy. Working with grassroots women's and human rights organisations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilises national and international action to support efforts to stop these abuses.

Services needed

Equality Now is looking to retain a senior accountant to work closely with the Director of Finance & Administration and the Europe office Manager/Bookkeeper. Services will include ensuring that the financial affairs of Equality Now Europe Office are properly managed. Responsibilities will include accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, grant accounting/reporting, journal entries, month and year-end close process and close work with the London Bookkeeper on the yearly office audit.

Services are expected to be needed for two days a week. The work can be carried out remotely but will require traveling to our London office from time to time. Starting in July 2018.

Finance and Accounting (not all inclusive)

  • Ensure proper maintenance of all financial and accounting systems, functions, appropriate internal controls and procedures.

  • Maintain all accounts, ledgers, spreadsheets, files and reporting systems.

  • Coordinate audits and the proper filing of tax returns.

  •  Manage grant accounting and reporting.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance of financial records Oversee grants accounting and reporting, including restricted grant budgeting.

Qualifications should include:   

  • Strong organisational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritise multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail

  • Outstanding analytical and troubleshooting skills with exceptional facility with Excel

  • Experience with QuickBooks

  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision making capability

  • Highly resourceful team-player with the ability to also be extremely effective independently

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, adapt to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Forward-looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions

Experience Requirements

  • Strong work tenure: 5+ years of experience managing financial affairs preferably in an international non-profit organisation.

  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills, and highly developed listening skills;

  • Ability to deliver on deadline.

  • A direct, honest, and respectful approach to problem solving, with the ability to foster collaboration and contribute with the Equality Now team.

  • Affiliation to IFAC Accounting standard
