Your new role
Take an active role in month-end, supporting the team and completing tasks as and when necessary to achieve a quick close process and ensure deadlines are met.
Prepare and post regular month end journals, including accruals and prepayments Participate in the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process.
Prepare complete and accurate reconciliations dealing promptly with reconciling items.
Provide support to more junior members of the team with their reconciliations.
Understand and explain cost centre performance to non-finance managers across the business by performing variance analysis and providing commentary to clearly explain this.
Act as a trusted advisor. Prepare management accounts and ad-hoc reports that present information in a clear and informative way for both financial and non-financial staff. Support the Head of Finance with the budget and quarterly forecast processes.
Work with department managers to help them understand the current position, committed activity and potential future activity to ensure that forecasts accurately reflect expectations.
Provide cover for other members of the team during absences.
Assist with the preparation of year-end audit information, liaising with auditors as necessary to ensure they have everything they need.
Seek out continuous improvement - suggesting and implementing changes which improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.
Provide reactive to support to issues as they occur - implementing proactive solutions for ongoing issues. Coach other members of the team, sharing skills and knowledge and encouraging personal development. Review payment runs, checking invoices for approval and accuracy, prior to presentation for signature.
Prepare payroll information and ensure all changes are accurate and understood.
Work with Human Resources team to ensure the process is completed in a timely manner.
Ensure all other payroll payments are made on time (e.g. pensions) and reconciled on a monthly basis. Assist with the P11D and PSA returns on annual basis.
Control the funds reconciliation process, liaising with the fundraising and international teams as necessary to ensure income is allocated to the correct places.
Set up, allocation and payment of grants. Prepare the monthly VAT return and act as a point of contact for any queries that arise.
Liaise with external advisors as necessary.
Support and maintain the finance system - setting up new departments/projects/users as required and ensuring integrity of the system is maintained.
Complete periodical surveys for the Office of National Statistics.
Monitor investment performance and prepare monthly accounting entries.
Prepare and complete uploads of budget/forecast data in the accounting system - and complete reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
