Your new company
You will be working for a FTSE 100 and world leading business intelligence, academic publishing, knowledge and events business. The business is split into 5 divisions which are Academic Publishing, Business Intelligence, Global Exhibitions, Knowledge & Networking and Global Support. Operating in more than 20 countries worldwide the business employs 6,500 members of staff.

The business aim of the company is to serve commercial, professional and academic communities by helping them connect and learn, and by creating and providing access to content and intelligence that helps people and business work smarter and make better decisions faster.

Due to a recent business acquisition the company is looking to recruit a qualified accountant and VAT specialist into its Tax & Compliance team to handle the extra VAT work that this has created.

You will be working as an Assistant VAT Controller reporting to the VAT Controller as part of a team of 20 in the Tax & Compliance department based in the European Shared Services, Global Support Centre located in Colchester, Essex.

This is a multiple award winning team which has collected numerous internal and external awards in recent years.

The head of the department describes the team as knowledgeable and outstanding in its delivery and cites the huge potential for career development and progression within the business as a whole as a reason to join this team.

The role would ideally suit someone who is used to working in a busy environment perhaps with a practice background.

Your new role
You will be expected to prepare review and submit VAT returns, review monthly EC Sales lists, advise other teams within the business on VAT related issues, assist with VAT project work, set up new VAT registrations, liaise with tax authorities and external advisers on VAT queries, assist with VAT due diligence and attend meetings on acquisitions divestment and business product changes, set up review and monitor systems and controls and provide training to team members and the wider Tax & Compliance team.

What you'll need to succeed
You will have full right to work in the UK without limitation.

As a minimum you will be an ACA/ACCA Chartered Accountant.

You will have excellent knowledge and understanding of all Tax & Compliance processes including best practice in Tax & Compliance, people, processes and technology. It is expected that you will have significant knowledge of SAP system and a track record of continuous professional development. Knowledge of dealing with acquisitions and disposals and lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies would be preferable.

As a guide only you will have four years relevant experience.

Annual salary up to £45000 per annum.
