Qualified Accountant – Head of Financial & Commercial Support
Band 1: £62,753-£71,653
Bootle, Merseyside (with occasional travel to Cheltenham, London and industry-related sites in the UK)
A highly skilled senior professional,
You’ll provide exceptional financial support
A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. To perform at our best, we need a finance function that offers outstanding support. As Head of Financial & Commercial Support, you’ll lead a 15-strong team in a key, central role.
A qualified Accountant, you’ll manage a function with a broad financial remit, which ranges from financial and management accounting to procurement and commercial management. With responsibility for areas including budgetary control, treasury management, commercial performance management and statutory reporting too, you’ll ensure ONR has solid financial services right across the board. The key is to enhance the quality of this support through change initiatives and continuous improvement. You’ll review and lean business processes and build a function that’s capable of providing high-level expertise, insight, business intelligence and challenge. An exemplary leader who forges links with senior stakeholders, you’ll oversee wider Finance Directorate activities and champion a culture of high performance, collaborative working and enabling outcomes.
A member of CIMA, a CCAB body or an internationally recognised equivalent, you’ll bring in-depth knowledge of strategic and operational finance and performance management. You’ll have gained this in a senior role, where you have provided corporate leadership, operating at Board level. With this background, you will know how to manage change successfully and provide a high quality finance service. You achieve results through a proactive approach and excellent communication. While it’s crucial that you’re collaborative and keep colleagues well informed, it is flexibility, resilience and exceptional professional standards that will help you succeed in this challenging role.
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with these roles attracting a salary of £62,753 to £71,653. In addition, up to £15,000 relocation may be available. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a very generous holiday entitlement.
ONR is a Public Corporation created to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our inspectors are drawn from all manner of professional backgrounds including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases to planned security inspections to the development and implementation of a new domestic safeguards regime.
