Overseeing a direct team of two, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the statutory reporting for the charity, overseeing the production of statutory accounts and streamlining controls and processes. With a wider team of 15, the Financial Controller will have a key responsibility for evaluating the allocation of resources and ensuring the department is running effectively. This role also has a key responsibility for evaluating acquisitions and will work with the senior management directors and the chief executive to analyse financial strategy and risks to the charity. A key part of this role will be working collaboratively at this level, developing fresh ideas on how to achieve strategic goals whilst balancing financial regulations and considerations.
The successful candidate will be a qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) accountant with post qualification experience ideally in a complex charitable organisation, or with charity audit experience from practice. With first rate interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will be able to build credibility quickly, influence key members of the team and manage expectations outside of finance. This position will work closely with the Board on certain projects, so the ability to operate at the strategic level is essential. This role would suit someone ambitious who is looking for that next step up towards the Finance Director role but has experience heading up the statutory accounting for a complex organisation, ideally a charity. This is a key role with great scope for internal development, with the immediate chance to add strategic value in a role that combines technical accounting with significant senior engagement both within and outside of finance.
