My client was founded in 1877 and their vision was to play a small but significant part in the wider University of Oxford. In 1996, they became a Permanent Private Hall of the University, and is committed to excellence in teaching and research. Currently, they around 150 students, of whom 60 are Church of England ordinands, studying for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and who come from an incredibly wide variety of backgrounds. My client is currently investing very significantly into its buildings and so the role offers an exciting opportunity to interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Your new role
Reporting to the Bursar, the Finance Bursar is a wide-ranging post, requiring experience, sensitivity, and flexibility. The role offers an exciting and varied opportunity, with a range of responsibilities reflecting the relatively small size of the Hall. It would be ideal for someone with a background in Finance who wishes to take on additional responsibilities and to interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate may have worked in a collegiate environment before, or else may be applying to work in Higher Education for the first time.
What you'll need to succeed
Significant financial experience, likely to have been obtained as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Financial accounting or similar role
Ability to handle, maintain and present financial data accurately, based on general ledger accounting
A successful track record of strategic planning and management
Advanced knowledge of Excel and good system skills
Sympathy with the ethos and values of the collegiate environment and the Hall.
An accountancy qualification
Technical accounting knowledge, including experience of month end and VAT returns, credit control and payroll
Knowledge of Charities SORP or experience of preparing financial reports in a highly regulated environment
Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP
Experience and knowledge of Oxford University structure and administrative procedures, or experience of working in a Theological Education Institution, or experience of working in the Church of England.
