One of the UK's leading businesses are looking to recruit a highly talented and commercial qualified accountant to join the business as Area Finance Manager to be based at their offices on the outskirts of Colchester and with regular travel in the business to sites in Central London, Kent and Essex.

Your new role
Reporting into the Head of Finance the Area Finance Manager will act as a finance partner to the Area Directors providing critical insight into all aspects of financial performance of the area in order to drive delivery of business performance objectives. They will lead the area in business planning & reporting cycle (strategic plans, budgets, outlooks and forecasts) in line with Regional and Group Reporting requirements.
They will be responsible for the timely and accurate provision of statutory accounts in line with regularity reporting requirements and group policy. The Area Finance Manager is a key member of the Regional Finance Team leading the process for balance sheet reviews, controls, provisions and reconciliation with the SSC at a regional level. They will provide tracking and challenge to the areas on the delivery of excellence programme in line with targets and operate in a matrix structure taking responsibility for consistent MI for regional finance in designated functional areas.
Key tasks and responsibilities Strategy

  • Partnering the area director to develop and drive the 3 year business plan.
  • To lead the financial evaluation of capital investment initiatives for Area.
  • To support Area management in drive and direct commercial and business strategy.
  • Lead the balance sheet reviews process for the Area as part of the management of controls, provisions and reconciliations with SSC at regional level.
  • Lead the monthly ground stocks and SAP stocks review processes and semi annual spares review for the Area, including provision of insight for SOx controls.

Accounting

Business performance

  • To provide insightful reporting to the Area Director in order to Interpret business performance data taking measures as appropriate to ensure expected results (including Sales, volumes, costs and EBITDA), are delivered and to drive optimal CAPEX performance
  • Generation of Area weekly & 3 monthly forecasts as well as production of Area Budgets and Outlooks.
  • To support AD and Head of Finance in:
  • Presentation of Area budget and outlooks to regional executive
  • Preparation of Area MI and benchmarking (functional area KPIs)
  • Reporting and reviewing Area support costs
  • Ownership of review and reporting of Area stock (Ground, SAP and Spares) processes in accordance with SOx key control requirements. * Tracking of capital applications and delivery at an area level * Preparation of core Area MI packs including sector level reports for Group.
  • To support the Head of Finance and Area management team in delivery of KPI targets by identifying rends insights and opportunities, in support of the area commercial and operational strategy
  • Leadership of functional reporting for one of Commercial, Operational and Logistics on behalf of the region as a whole, including accounting provisions, benefits tracking and reporting of KPIs across the region.

Governance and Control

  • Ensure compliance to group policies, processes, procedures and tools to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and compliance with SOx requirements
  • Assessment of BU risks and opportunities on behalf of Area
  • Management of implementation of and ongoing management of SOx controls within the Area.

Leadership & team development

  • Leadership role within Area management team responsible for providing critical insight and integrity to Area decision making.
  • Key member of regional finance team consisting of other finance managers and functional analysts

Other

  • To undertake ad hoc financial support to Regional Managing Directors and Head of Finance
  • To be involved in national/cross-regional finance work as required


What you'll need to succeed
The Area Finance Manager will be a ambitious and commercially focused qualified Accountant with a proven track record of financial delivery, with significant experience in a large multi-site, construction, engineering or manufacturing business. They will have demonstrable understanding of complex organisations, key business issues and balance sheet controls/reconciliations. They will have a strong history of business partnering including experience of providing challenge and insight to senior business managers.
They will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and develop relationships and have the resilience to perform at a high level in a fast moving change environment.
