Senior Associates - US Tax

About the role

As a senior associate in the US expat and employment tax team you would be based in the London, Embankment Place office, and responsible for working on a broad portfolio of corporate and private clients. You will take on a wide range of responsibilities in both the compliance and consulting affairs of those clients and therefore a background in US individual tax is necessary. We are looking for someone to demonstrate a broad range of skills and behaviours that support us in delivering our strategy and ensuring that we are able to service clients appropriately.


Responsibilities

Many firms employ US individuals, have US partners, or elect US directors, and the unique nature of the US tax system ensures that this can add a level of complexity and risk that is often overlooked. US citizens and residents are taxed on worldwide income, which may generate individual and corporate compliance obligations. Failure to understand and comply with these obligations can leave the company exposed to cost and reputational risks, and the individual exposed to increased tax burdens.

The US expatriate and employment tax team is based in London and delivers US tax returns and related compliance and consulting services to clients in order to help them manage their obligations.

Essential experience:
  • The preparation of US tax returns, tax equalisations and other associated compliance filings;

  • Assisting senior staff in managing their client portfolios;

  • Managing junior staff, including reviewing their work with regards to the delivery of compliance and consulting projects;

  • Communicating with clients, both verbally and in written form and managing internal stakeholders;

  • Preparing calculations, advice memos and working on other ad-hoc projects;


    Desirable skills & Qualities:

    The preparation of US tax returns, tax equalisations and other associated compliance filings;

  • Assisting senior staff in managing their client portfolios;

  • Communicating with clients, both verbally and in written form and managing internal stakeholders;

  • Preparing calculations, advice memos and working on other ad-hoc projects;

  • Strong communication skills – verbally and written

  • Time management skills

  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively

  • Previous experience with a Global Mobility function

  • Experience with managing juniors

  • Keep up to date with local and national business and economic issues

  • Positive ‘can do attitude’

Daily Duties include:
  • Being the client contact for multiple individuals, answering day to day queries on basic tax and admin.

  • Preparing US tax returns and associated filings and responding to review points made by senior PwC staff.

  • Reviewing simple US tax returns and calculations and coaching junior staff.

  • Drafting emails for senior staff and reviewing emails drafted by junior staff relating to a variety of tax matters.

  • Preparing advice memos on a range of tax technical subjects.

  • Preparing responses to IRS notices and audits and calling the IRS or other tax authorities to discuss.

  • Drafting invoices and managing finances across a client portfolio.

  • Running client management reports and preparing stats updates for client compliance reports.

  • Updating risk management documentation across client portfolio.
